Airports and airlines have been in the news a lot recently. First we had the ash cloud spewing out of a volcano in Iceland, which grounded countless different flights in the UK. Holidaymakers in their thousands were either unable to leave the UK for their foreign holiday or were stuck abroad for days on end, unable to get back home.
In recent weeks the attentions have turned to cabin crew strikes. While talks are still going on to avert more strikes, many people will be wondering whether their flight will actually go ahead in the coming days and weeks.
It is not hard to see why some people doubt the idea of flying anywhere at the moment. With potential delays even at the best of times, flying isn't always the nicest choice. This is particularly true if you happen to dislike flying, as a lot of people do. The slightest bit of turbulence can make a lot of people feel very sickly and worried about whether they will reach their destination or not - even though the chances of anything untoward happening are minimal.
The good news is that there are other ways to get away if you want to avoid flying altogether. Cruises are enjoying a new lease of life for instance, and they are certainly better if you hate all the hanging around that comes along with being at an airport. As soon as you step on board with your luggage, you are free to enjoy your surroundings as you set sail for your destination.
Depending on where you are going you could also drive. Even trips abroad can be undertaken by car, although it is a good idea to have a passenger who can share the driving duties with you. This is particularly true if you have a long distance to travel. The other big advantage of driving is that you can stop whenever you want to, as you will always find places to stop and have some refreshments.
Train travel is perhaps one of the best choices of all though. It is quicker than driving and definitely less stressful as you don't have to worry about being delayed by traffic. Furthermore, while you can get trains within the UK to other UK destinations, you can also go abroad and travel to various destinations on the continent as well.
If you want to travel abroad, start off by checking the latest Channel Tunnel prices . You can be on the continent in no time at all and it gives you a nice break away from home too - not to mention the chance of seeing another country.
